When we have a new idea we have to consider that 50% of inventions turn out to already be patented. The internet has done a few good things for invention and patent development, one of which is the ease of access to a Free Online Patent Search of the United States and Canadian Patent Offices. Probably the easiest to use is the google patent search link.
